A chain of numbers is hidden in the 6x6 grid. It begins with a single square with a "1". That is followed by two squares, each with a "2". Then three "3"s, etc., ending with eight "8"s. The chain proceeds only horizontally and vertically.

In the final diagram the "1" borders the odds, and the "8"s border the evens. That is, the square with "1" borders a "3", a "5", and a "7", and there is at least one "8" bordering a "2", at least one "8" bordering a "4", and at least one "8" bordering a "6". Borders are shared horizontally and vertically.
